In a heart-wrenching incident, a Class 5 student was allegedly set on fire after being gangraped by multiple men in Dhaniabheti Lalung Gaon of Nagaon district on Friday.

The minor girl had reportedly suffered 90 per cent burn injuries. The girl died on Saturday morning at the BP Civil Hospital in Nagaon where she was admitted in a critical condition.

According to media reports, the accused boys had poured kerosene on her to set her ablaze.

Three men allegedly raped the girl after she returned from school last evening, police said.

One of the accused has been identified as Zakir Hussain.

Angry locals attacked Zakir Hussain’s house in protest, while students of the girl’s school and the All Assam Students Union (AASU) demanded arrest of the accused.

Two accused have already been detained by the police and the search to nab the third one is currently on.
