US President-elect Donald Trump on Thanksgiving has prayed for the nation to come together after one of the most acrimonious campaigns that the country saw in decades.
“It is my prayer, that on this Thanksgiving, we begin to heal our divisions and move forward as one country, strengthened by a shared purpose and very, very common resolve,” Trump said, Efe news reported on Thursday.
“Emotions are raw and tensions just don’t heal overnight,” he said in a brief video released on the eve of the holiday.
The Republican real estate mogul clinched victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton in a surprise result on November 8 following a contest filled with insults, mutual recriminations and heated rhetoric.
Trump said the nation must strive to “restore the bonds of trust between citizens. Because when America is unified, there is nothing beyond our reach, and I mean absolutely nothing.”
The President-elect and his family would spend the Thanksgiving holiday at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
