The woman seen asking for votes for her exiled husband here in 2019 has now been fielded by the Trinamul Congress against that selfsame husband, who has since parted ways from her. Soumitra Khan, the BJP candidate for the Bishnupur Lok Sabha seat said today: “It would have been a better contest had there been a political candidate against me here.
After her candidature, I’m confident that it’s going to be a cake walk for me this time and my winning margin will be at least 4 lakhs.” In 2019, a court order had banned entry of the BJP candidate Soumitra Khan in Bishnupur. On his behalf, Sujata, then his wife, had gone from door to door in Bishnupur asking for votes for Khan, which had helped him win the election. Soumitra and Sujata got legally separated six months ago.
Soumitra. meanwhile, had married Paromita Roy Chowdhury, the widow of a former BJP district president in Siliguri. Khan declared Paromita as his wife on 14 February, Valentine’s Day. Sujata said today: “I kept telling people that he’s been having affairs with uncountable women and girls and the same way he’s cheated the people of Bishnupur.” Sujata currently is holding the post of Bankura Zilla Parishad Karmadhyaksha (Fishery) .
