Canada Earthquake: Three quakes in a row strike British Columbia coast

Three powerful earthquakes struck the coast of British Columbia, Canada, near Vancouver Island on Sunday, United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.

According to reports, the first earthquake was reported at 10.39 pm (Canada time), while the second one hit the same location less than half an hour later.

A third 6.5-magnitude quake was reported at 11:22 pm PDT about 138 miles (223 kilometers) southwest of Port Hardy. Its depth was also about 6.2 miles (10 kilometers).

According to the reports, little or no area has been affected and a tsunami warning hasn’t been set in place at the moment.

There were no reports of casualties at the moment.

In a similar incident, two major quakes hit Indonesia and Papua New Guinea located in the Pacific Ring of Fire on 11 October, killing at least three people in Java.

More than 1000 earthquakes take place around the world every year – most of them in area sitting on the Ring.
