Google ditches Smart Reply suggestions from Voice app

According to a new report from 9to5Google, Google has removed the Smart Reply suggestions from the Voice app on Android and iOS.

Smart Reply suggestions used to appear at the bottom of the message while using the Voice app. Google has withdrawn this feature within one year, as it was launched last year in February.

This straightforward function, based on recent messages received, used to offer up to three relevant replies in pop up pills.

These pills would show up above the “Type a message” section, and tapping one of them would send a Smart Reply right away.

The removal is confirmed by Google Voice’s release notes on the Play Store and App Store: The report stated that “smart replies are no longer supported.”

However, the Android Accessibility Suite’s standalone “Switch Access” app, which was released by Google in the meantime, is now available on the Play Store.

Instead of using the dislay, the app enables users to communicate with their Android device via one or more switches or a keyboard.

“Control your phone or tablet using switches or the front camera.” You can use switches to select items, scroll, enter text, and more. Switch Access can be helpful if you can’t interact directly with your device, according to the Switch Access about page.

The app scans the items on users’ screens and highlights each item until they make a selection.
