According to recent reports based on users’ claims, the time-management and scheduling tool “Google Calendar” from the tech giant Google is generating arbitrary events based on emails and newsletters from Gmail.
Although there is no obvious pattern to this glitch, it does seem that emails that mention dates may be the cause, according to 9To5Google.
A “U.S. Financial Privacy Notice” is a frequent occurrence that appears as an all-day calendar event and a reminder notification on Android handsets with the same name.
Additionally, newsletters also appear to be triggering these events. Taking to Twitter, several users reported the issue.
While one user said, “My @googlecalendar has started creating random events based on emails I’ve gotten . It’s just like, random marketing content and newsletters”, another commented, “Random bug(?) in @googlecalendar. A bunch of random emails are showing up as events in my calendar.”
Although the specific cause is yet unknown, users can resolve this by going to Google Calendar settings and selecting Events from Gmail under Settings. Turning off the checkbox for “Automatically add events from Gmail to my calendar” should prevent the events from being created.
