BMW recalls 14,000 EVs due to battery issue, poses car crash risk

BMW has recalled over 14,000 electric vehicles due to a software issue that could result in a loss of power and pose a crash risk.

 The company is recalling specific models of iX SUVs and the i4 and i7 sedans built between October 14, 2021, and October 28, 2022.

 According to BMW, the high-voltage battery electronic control unit is the subject of the software problem.

 Specifically, a misdiagnosis can sporadically occur within the battery management electronics, which could cause the electronic control unit to reset.

 While they wait for a software update to address the issue, the owners of these cars can still operate them.

 Due to the possibility of battery fires, the manufacturer had to recall a “limited number” of 2022 i4 sedans and iX SUVs last year.

According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the risk of a fire was raised by a short-circuit in a high-voltage battery.After learning about “a non-US field incident involving a 2022 BMW i4 eDrive40,” BMW announced the recall.

BMW is not the only automaker that is recalling its EVs, last year certain models of Tesla cars showed tail light glitches which occurred due a software bug, accordion go to the company  

Ford Motor also recalled roughly 49,000 Mustang Mach-E electric crossovers in June last year due to concerns about battery safety and instructed dealers to temporarily stop selling the well-liked electric vehicle.
