Due to the challenge of identity, the Muslim community has made no noticeable attempt to identify itself with the Indian ethos. Many an Islamic country has reformed its personal laws. Even in Pakistan, polygamy is not permitted; a man cannot take a second wife without satisfying the district magistrate that doing so is essential for him.
