Zimbabwe Cricket bans Madhevere, Mavutas for 4 months following failed doping test

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) stated on Thursday that all-rounders Wesley Madhevere and Brandon Mavuta will be suspended from all cricket contests for four months after failing a doping test.

Both allrounders have been penalised 50% of their salary for three months, which will be effective in January 2024.

Batsman Kevin Kasuza has been added to the list. After failing an internal doping test last week, he was immediately suspended from all cricket-related activities.

Madhevere and Mavuta were immediately suspended after testing positive for a forbidden recreational drug during an in-house dope test performed in an out-of-competition case last month. They were sanctioned during a hearing on Wednesday, during which they admitted to allegedly “breaching the ZC Employment Code of Conduct,” according to a board release.

“In taking the decision, the Committee also considered some mitigating factors, with both players showing remorse and having already started working on withdrawing from the habit and getting their systems clean,” the Committee said in a press release.

Both players were part of the Zimbabwe team that played Ireland in a home series in early December. Madhevere played all three T20Is, whereas Mavuta only played the third T20 and three ODIs following that.

Kevin Kazusa has yet to attend his disciplinary hearing.
