Allyson Felix of the United States has now surpassed the Jamaican star athlete Usain Bolt at the medals tally in World Athletics Championships in Doha. She helped her team win the gold medal in the 4x400m mixed relay event and surpassed Usain Bolt’s record.

Her performance in the mixed relay along with her teammates ensured that Felix took her gold tally to a dozen, one more than what Usain Bolt had finished with at the 2017 edition of the World Championships.

On Sunday, USA find themselves at the top of the pile with a world record time of 3:09.34. Prior to the mixed relay event, Felix was level with Bolt as far as most gold medals are concerned. She then helped Michael Cherry power clear on the last leg and it was Cherry who helped USA edge past Poland and take the lead.

Notably, Poland had deployed a different strategy. They had sent their two men to try and build an unassailable lead and it seemed to have worked too as they were leading very comfortably at one stage.

However, this was before Cherry’s run. Felix ran the second leg for USA as Poland who were leading did not finish at the podium. Jamaica came second and Bahrain claimed the Bronze.

The 33-year-old now has a dozen gold medals at the World Championships which she has won in five different events: 200m, 400m, 4x100m, 4x400m and the mixed 4x400m.
