There had been talks about the women’s Indian Premier League in the past and after the stupendous show by Indian cricket team led by Harmanpreet Kaur in the T201I against South Africa, which India won by 3-1, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has proposed to conduct a few exhibition women’s T20 matches during the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League.
Reacting to the BCCI’s decision which seems to be a step forward towards organising the IPL, here is what Twitter think about it:
” Great News in right direction #bcci #Mithali & Co will have a roaring time,” wrote a Twitter user.
” Ek women’s IPL tho banta hai ab. Make it happen @BCCIWomen,” wrote another cricket fan.
” #Cricket @BCCI to conduct Womens @IPL 🏏 from next year from players all around the world hopefully including Pakistan Womens also. @aaliaaaliya @vikrantgupta73 @Ateet_Sharma @sawerapasha @FazeelaSaba1 @ZAbbasOfficial,” wrote another fan on Twitter.
” Woman’s IPL that’s amazing idea and it will empower women’s cricket@BCCI . It will be another huge success if woman IPL come to existence,” wrote another micro-blogging site user.
And the momentum continues to grow in India post their 50 over World Cup success with Exhibition IPL matches planned for this year! 👏🏽👏🏽 https://t.co/S3RNhjTN83 https://t.co/HaEJFfqVej

Yes because they also deserve equal opportunities and @M_Raj03 said that this is the right time to start the Women’s #IPL

Don’t know is it really hard for BCCI to invest in women’s IPL or they think it won’t attract many viewers to watch the sport. Well something must be holding ’em back. Addition of women’s IPL would have been a massive morale booster to so many young girls wanting to play cricket.

Even former Indian cricketer and CoA member Diana Edulji opened up about the idea of women’s IPL and said, “The IPL GC may discuss it for sure. If it’s feasible we will do it. I am all for women’s IPL. But it’s too late this year to come up with a full-fledged event because of time constraint. We need a different window and, therefore, we can’t rush into it. It needs a lot of planning.”
In the recently concluded India’s tour to South Africa, if there was one thing that captured everyone’s attention, it was the demand of the fans to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to broadcast the women’s matches as well.
In the women’s T20 exhibition matches during IPL 2018, likes of Mithali Raj, Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and a few top cricketers from England and Australia would be available for the event.
