We are always there for the youngsters in the team: Shikhar Dhawan

With the T20 World Cup next year, the Indian team management is giving youngsters the opportunities to showcase their talents. Meanwhile, India opener Shikhar Dhawan assured that the senior members in the team are always open to help the new boys in the team.

“For senior players like us, say someone like Rishabh (Pant) comes in to bat or Shreyas (Iyer) coming in, we make sure we do the communication with them and make sure they are comfortable and not nervous. We make them think what is needed at that particular moment,” Dhawan told reporters ahead of the third T20I between India and South Africa at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The southpaw added that communication is a very important tool and the senior members are always there for the youngsters who want to discuss things with them.

“That’s what we do even when I am batting with Rohit (Sharma) or Virat (Kohli), we keep discussing and that is very important. Communication is very, very important. Any time any youngster wants to discuss something with us, we are always there for them,” he pointed.

The 33-year-old also heaped praises on the performance of newcomers Deepak Chahar and Washington Sundar and said that such performances will build their confidence going into the World T20.

“Washington is bowling really good, giving us the breakthroughs and also choking the batsmen. He has got very good control and variety as well. Even Deepak Chahar, he swings the ball both ways and at the same has pace as well. It is the perfect platform for them to perform and build the confidence for the T20 World Cup,” he explained.
