Melbourne Stars all-rounder Marcus Stoinis on Sunday broke the Big Bash League (BBL) record of the highest individual score in an innings by smashing 147 against the Sydney Sixers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

The Australian international’s maiden Twenty-20 (T20) century was powered by 13 boundaries and eight over-boundaries. He missed the chance to score BBL’s first 150+ score after the umpire refused to call what looked like a waist-high no-ball by Tom Curran.
Riding on his blistering 79-ball knock, Glenn Maxwell-led Melbourne Stars posted a total of 219/1 in their quota of 20 overs. Opener Hilton Cartwright played a brilliant assistant to Stoinis as he scored 59 off 40 balls.
30-year-old Stoinis added 207 with Cartwright for the first wicket to register the highest-ever opening partnership in a BBL match. His 147 has also become the third-highest T20 score by an Australian, with Aaron Finch owning the first two scores.
Chasing, Sydney Sixers never looked to be in contention. The Stars kept on losing wickets at regular intervals with the highest partnership being 44, made by James Vince and Moises Henriques for the third wicket.
Clint Hinchliffe was the pick of the bowlers for the Stars as he returned with a figure of 3/20 in his quota of four overs. Stars’ highest wicket-taker Haris Rauf was not instrumental as he conceded 43 runs and managed a single wicket.
