Diogo Dalot may be a Manchester United player now, but after spending over a decade with Porto, it’s understandable that he has a special place in his heart for the Dragoes and his two-part farewell post to the Portuguese giants on Instagram has gone viral for all the right reasons.

The 19-year-old Dalot signed a five-year deal with the Red Devils on Wednesday after the clubs agreed a reported £20 million transfer fee for his services.

The caption of the first video, when translated, reads: “I don’t remember a single day of my life that I didn’t dream of being a player of FC Porto.  I grew up dreaming that one day I was going to be part of the history of this club. Ever since I was 8, when first entered the camp, I remember every moment of their extraordinary journey.

“From a kid who started by catching balls and ended up with the privilege of being champion. I twas in FC Porto that I grew up as a player.  It was the value and culture of this club that have helped form me as a man.

“For all that I have experienced during this trip, I want to thank to president and the board for all these years and for the will they have shown to continue wearing the Blue and White, but also because they recognise that this is a unique opportunity in my career.

“My thanks also to the misters (coaches), the doctors and other staff of the club, to fans, to all were part of this walk.”

Post-translation, the second caption reads: “Life reservers us surprises and will make us, for now, by different paths, but to Porto I will never be able to say goodbye, because you never say goodby to the one that is your family.

“My profession takes to me to another club, to another country, because no footballer can refuse the opportunity to play in a club like Manchester United and work with Jose Mourinho.

But my love to FC Porto will continue to accompany me everywhere. A huge thank you roe everything, a fan of FC Porto. This one is just one.”

While it’s the norm to see footballers pen farewell messages after moving from one club to another, Dalot’s effort is truly sincere and stands out among the crowd.

United fans will hope he can bring the same sort of passion to their side next season as they begin their assault on the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
