The play-offs teams of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) were decided on Sunday at the end of the match between Chennai Super Kings and Preity Zinta’s Kings XI Punjab.
Notably, four teams — Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai, Punjab and Rajasthan — were in contention of the play-offs. To qualify, Mumbai needed a win against Delhi on 20 May. And Punjab could have qualified only if they defeated Chennai with a huge margin and MI lost their match. While Mumbai did lose, to Delhi Daredevils, KXIP could not win and were knocked out of the play-offs by Chennai. Punjab’s loss made way for Ajinkya Rahane’s Rajasthan Royals to qualify for the knockout stage.
Meanwhile, a video has gone viral on the internet in which Preity Zinta can be seen saying “I am just very happy that Mumbai is not going to the finals…Really happy.”

Earlier, on Sunday, MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings knocked out Kings XI Punjab from the play-offs race of the Indian Premier League (IPL), outplaying them in the last league match by five wickets.
Fielding first, Chennai bowlers did a fantastic job to bundle out Punjab for 153. After that, CSK all-rounder Suresh Raina (61 not out), who played sensibly throughout the innings and Deepak Chahar (39) along with other batters helped the hosts to complete the chase in the 19/1 overs.
