Polland’s star tennis player Iga Swiatek embarked on the new tennis season with a convincing win in the United Cup tennis tournament on Saturday. The world number 1 dominated the entire proceeds of the match as it ended in a comfortable victory for Poland against Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva.
Swiatek defeated the world number 2 Putintseva by 6-1, 6-3, giving Poland a 1-0 lead over Kazakhstan in the maiden edition of the mixed team competition that is currently being played in three cities of Australia namely Perth, Brisbane and Sydney.
“I’m pretty happy with my performance,” First matches of the season are always rusty. I was happy that in the important moments I was really composed,” Swiatek was quoted as saying by the WTA Tour website.
After a comfortable win against Putintseva, the head-to-head stats of Swiatek and Yulia are extended to 2-0. The United Cup is a new mixed team event that features a total of 18 nations, it is played for over 2 days. Ties in this tournament consist of 2 ATP and 2 WTA singles matches and also 1 mixed-doubles match.
