The Team India is likely to get legendary cricketer, VVS Lakshman as their head coach once the 2023 ODI World Cup is over. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is learnt to have been considering his name for the coveted post for the last couple of weeks.

According to sources, the present head coach Rahul Dravid is unlikely to extend his term of contract after the 2023 ODI World Cup and it might pay the way for Laxman to assume the charge.

VVS Lakshman has been the head coach of the Team India on several instances in the absence of Rahul Dravid. He was with the Indian team for the series against Ireland in previous year in June, and also for the first T20I against England and the short tour of Zimbabwe.

From travelling with the Indian team for Asia Cup 2022 to the New Zealand Test series, he was with the Indian team when Dravid was down with COVID-19. On being asked to a BCCI official about the split coaching, “Has that happened in Indian cricket before?” the report quoted him saying.

Rahul Dravid did not have a great tenure as the head coach of the national team since he took over. The Team India was knocked out of T20 world cup after they lost to England, further loss in the test and ODI series in South Africa have further been major concerns for the team.

Now all hopes are on the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup as the BCCI looks concerned and serious about the player’s fitness and availability. The BCCI has also shortlisted about 20 players as to whom they are targeting as the potential World Cup squad member.
