India’s star striker Sunil Chhetri struck a brilliant goal in the dying seconds as India stunned Myanmar 1-0 in AFC Asian Cup qualifier at Yangon on Tuesday.
Udanta Singh passed the ball to Chhetri, who applied a cool finish to win the game.
Udanta picked his sixth cap for the national side as he replaced Robin Singh in the 63rd minute.
India survived a few scares early in match, though the scoreline remained 0-0 in the first half. Indian defenders, led by goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, stood tall in front of the goalpost to stop Myanmar.
The second-half saw both the sides vying for a breakthrough. However, the breakthrough was well-earned by Chhetri for the blues in the 90th minute.
India defeated Myanmar on their home turf after a leap of 64 years.
India are placed in Group A with Macau, Kyrgyzstan and Myanmar and fighting to a place in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup finals.
With the hard-fought victory today, India pocketed three points to top Group A.
In the next match, they are scheduled to face Kyrgyzstan at home on June 13, 2017.
