Senior Women Nationals: Delhi beat Goa, Uttarakhand defeat Gujarat

Action in the 8th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship 2018 (B Division) continued here today into its third day with Steel Plant Sports Board, Hockey Uttarakhand and Delhi Hockey, all registering their first victories in their respective pool matches of the competition.

In a Pool A match, Steel Plant Sports Board registered their first victory of the competition as they triumphed 21-0 over Hockey Puducherry in a great display of attacking hockey. The match saw Steel Plant Sports Board score four goals each in the first two quarters, and continued attacking Hockey Puducherry as they scored eight goals in the third quarter and five in the last.

Goals for Steel Plant Sports Board were scored by Chanda Singh (8′, 22′, 23′, 28′, 32′, 47′), Prabhjot Kaur (4′, 37′, 45′, 59′), Sukhwinder Kaur (5′, 40′, 48′), skipper Shikha Sharma (12′, 42′), Veero (38′, 41′), Jyoti Rani (53′, 54′), Shweta Singh (29′) and Shilpi (33′).

In Pool B, Hockey Uttarakhand also registered their first victory of the competition as they defeated Hockey Gujarat with a score line of 8-1. Hockey Uttarakhand started the match well as they scored the first goal in the 2nd minute and went on to lead by a margin of 4-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw Hockey Gujarat score in the 17th minute to pull one goal back through Sweta Singh, but that turned out to be the only goal they managed to score in the match as Hockey Uttarakhand scored four more goals to register a 8-1 win. Goals for Hockey Uttarakhand were scored by Parameshwari (2′, 38′, 50′), Amita Sharan (6′, 11′), Manisha Chauhan (10′), Mamta Bhatt (23′) and Jyoti Manral (30′).

In a Pool C match, Delhi Hockey also registered their first victory of the tournament as they beat Goans Hockey by a score line of 4-0. It was a match which saw Delhi Hockey initiate the scoring in only the 3rd minute as Manisha Verma found the back of the net for them. Delhi Hockey continued to play some good hockey as they extended their lead to 2-0 in the 22nd minute when Sonali also scored.

At the verge of the end of third quarter, Manisha Verma scored her second of the match to give Delhi Hockey a 3-0 lead, which was later extended to 4-0 by Aarti as she converted a Penalty Corner in the 58th minute.
