Riding on a five-wicket haul by Shakib Al Hasan at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh scripted history as they registered a 20-run win over Australia on Wednesday, their maiden win against the Aussies in Test cricket.
Later named the Man Of The Match, Shakib bowled magical spells of 5/68 and 5/85 and scored 84 and five runs in two innings of the first Test at Mirpur.
Following the historic win, India’s cricket fraternity joined the celebration of the neighbouring nation. Leading icons Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag seemed in party moods among others from the cricket-frenzy nation.
“Two upsets in two days! Inspiring performance by @BCBtigers! Test cricket is thriving #BANvAUS,” Sachin said on Twitter.
“Well done Bangladesh. Special effort to beat Australia. #BANvAUS,” Sehwag tweeted.
Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif also hailed the Asian Tigers, saying: “Congrats Bangladesh on a special victory. Getting 86/8 when 107 were needed. Two wonderful test finishes in 2 days. A treat to watch #BANvAUS.”
Former Sri Lanka cricketer and commentator Russel Arnold also expressed his happiness over neighbours’ inspiring win.
Arnold said: “Very well done @BCBtigers #BANvAUS Congratulations on a brilliant test win and a hard fought one at that. Extremely happy for you !!!”
