Spanish football club Real Sociedad has confirmed on Saturday that it has signed 33-year-old former defender of the Spanish national team Nacho Monreal from Premier League team Arsenal.
The defender has reportedly agreed on a two-year contract with Real Sociedad. The deal implies that Monreal is all set to make a return to La Liga after spending six years in England.
“Real Sociedad and Arsenal FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Nacho Monreal to the ‘Blue and Whites’. Real Sociedad have reached an agreement with the player until June 30, 2021 and the official presentation will be on Monday,” said a statement on the Real Sociedad website.
Monreal began his professional football career with his home-town club Osasuna. He then had a couple of years stint with Malaga and joined Arsenal in 2013. He was also part of the Spanish national team on 22 occasions.
Monreal’s signing has been confirmed by Real Sociedad a day after they were defeated 2-0 by local rivals Athletic Club Bilbao.
