The Premier League may be the world’s most-watched football league in the world, but the English top-flight’s social media score took a massive hit with a Facebook post that suggested Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku could make a late charge for the Golden Boot.
With over 45k responses, a vast majority of them found it funny (10,976 and counting chose the ‘haha’ reaction), the post was a hit, but one can safely assume for the wrong reasons.
For Lukaku, as the infographic shows, is 10 goals behind Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane and Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah in the scoring charts.
Even Manchester City strikers Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling, with 21 and 15 goals respectively, have better chances of winning the Golden Boot with nine games left in the 2017-18 season.
Facebook user Mark Rooney commented, “Will Swansea make a late charge for top 4. That’s how much sense this post makes.”
Nicolas Roel Redding asked a pertinent question with a comment that read, “What did you guys smoke tonight?”

Swansea, for the uninitiated, are in 13th place and trail fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur by 28 points.
It’s mathematically impossible for the Swans to overtake the Lilywhites now and while Lukaku could in theory overtake Salah and Kane, it is highly unlikely that the prolific duo will suffer such a barren streak while the Belgian hits a purple patch like no other.

Salah and Kane have been neck-and-neck since the start of the season and while the Spurs striker is the slight favourite to lift the Golden Boot for the third time on the trot, the Liverpool winger is expected to push the race down to the wire.
Both players are in the running to beat Cristiano Ronaldo’s 42-goal record for a footballer in the English top-flight, with Kane on 37 and Salah on 33 (both figures are in all competitions).
