Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil was full of praise for Arsenal as they beat Everton 5-2 to register their first away win of the Premier League season at Goodison Park on Sunday.

“At the end of the day, we are so happy to win the game. Of course, we knew it’d be difficult at Everton but we showed character, we believed in ourselves and we won the game,” Ozil said as quoted by the club official website.

“In training, we always show our quality together, so today on the pitch you saw from the start until the end we played very well in front of the goal. We were a little bit unlucky in front of goal but especially in the second half we showed our quality,” the 29-year-old added.

Ozil found the back of the net in the 53rd minute, while Nacho Monreal (40’), Alexandre Lacazette (74’), Aaron Ramsey (90’) and Alexis Sánchez (90 + 5’) chipped in with brilliant goals.

For the hosts, Wayne Rooney (12) and Oumar Niasse (90 + 3’) were successful while facing dominant Gunners.

Arsenal skipper Per Mertesacker was also seen in buoyant mood after his team posted a thumping win at Everton.

“We started really well and then to be 1-0 behind was difficult. We stuck to the gameplan and created a lot of chances but couldn’t execute it. At half-time we said we needed to execute better and our guys up top did it,” Mertesacker said.

The 33-year-old German hailed Ozil saying: “I think it was crucial today that we had Mesut, the way he created chances and scored the important goal was very good for us.”
