Arsenal chalked up their third straight home victory in the English Premier League (EPL) football championship, defeating Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 in the seventh round of play on Sunday.
Spaniard Nacho Monreal opened the scoring for Arsenal 16 minutes into the match at Emirates Stadiu, reports Efe.
Nigerian Alex Iwobi netted the team’s second goal in the 56th minute to secure the three precious points.
The win is Arsene Wenger-coached Arsenal’s fourth victory in the past 10 days. They provisionally hold the fifth position in the standings with 13 points on goal differential behind defending champions Chelsea.
“I wouldn’t say it (match) was comfortable but we made it as easy as we could for ourselves. Brighton are a very good team and they made it difficult for us, but it’s a great result to win the game and come out with a clean sheet,” Iwobi told his club’s website after the win.
Brighton are in 14th place with seven points after suffering its fourth defeat this season.
Manchester City lead the standings with 19 points after pulling off a 1-0 road win over Chelsea on Saturday.
