Fakhar Zaman had taken just 18 ODI innings to score 1,000 ODI runs – three lesser innings than the record jointly held by five legendary cricketers. Before Zaman, the previous record was held by West Indies legend Viv Richards, Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott, Babar Azam and Quinton de Kock, all of these players had taken 21 innings to reach the milestone.
Meanwhile, Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli had played 24 ODI innings to reach 1,000 runs.
Fakhar Zaman rose to fame in international cricket after his match-winning century against arch-rivals India in the final of Champions Trophy 2017. Earlier this week, Fakhar Zaman on Friday became first Pakistan cricketer to score a double century in ODIs. He made history in the fourth ODI match against Zimbabwe at the Bulawayo stadium in Zimbabwe.
Fakhar Zaman scored an unbeaten 210 runs off 156 balls and in the process surpassed Saeed Anwar’s 21-year-old record for the highest Pakistani ODI innings of 194.
In the fourth ODI between, Pakistan and Zimbabwe, Pak openers Fakhar and Imam-ul-Haq also broke the world record of highest partnership for the first wicket. The duo added 304 runs for the first wicket, surpassing the previous record of 286 runs by Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga against England at Leed’s in 2006.
