Indian men’s team captain Virat Kohli is in superlative form, scoring runs at will in South Africa. So, is Smriti Mandhana who slammed a quickfire 135 in the second ODI match against the Proteas in the ICC Women’s Championship.
But, apart from their form, they have one more thing in common and it’s their jerseys number 18which are shining brightly for India in the Rainbow Nation.
Both the India men and the women teams are currently in South Africa. While Mithali Raj led Women-in-Blue had taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series, Virat Kohli’s boys are on the verge of making history in the six-match ODI series.
From women’s side, if it was not for Smriti Mandhana’s sensational 84 and 135-run knocks in both the matches, respectively, India might not have won the on-going series.
From the men’s side, Virat Kohli has scored 112, 46 and 160 runs, respectively, in the three ODI matches so far.
It seems the way both the stars are performing, soon jersey number 18 will also join the elite list after Sachin Tendulkar’s jersey number 10.
On Wednesday while Kohli slammed his ‘record’ 34th ODI ton, Mandhana registered her third ODI century.
While Mandhana’s majestic 135-run knock helped the Women-in-Blue register a 178-run thumping win over the Proteas women, Virat’s 160-run knock helped the Men-in-Blue defeat South Africa by 124 runs.
During her inning, Smriti Mandhana hit one six and 14 fours, while Virat Kohli hit 12 fours and two sixes.
