The Indian cricket team led by Virat Kohli have had a hectic year so far. The team have played three-match Test series, six-match One-day International (ODI) series and is playing the three-match T20 International series against South Africa in the Rainbow Nation.
After South Africa tour, the team is set to play tri-nation Nidahas Trophy, involving Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The series will start on 6th March and conclude on 18th March. After that, the players will be busy with the eleventh edition of Indian Premier League and thereafter India will tour to England.
According to a report in the ‘Times of India’ some of the senior players, including Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, MS Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar Kumar can be rested from the Nidahas Trophy.
“What is the point of sending these cricketers after such a hectic South African tour,” TOI quoted a source.
If Virat Kohli is rested then they are high chances that vice-captain Rohit Sharma could be named the stand-by captain of the team.
In Nidahas Trophy, seven matches will be played in the span of 12 days. In the opening match, Sri Lanka and India will face each-other on 6th March in Colombo.
Meanwhile, the final match of the on-going T20I series between India and South Africa will be played today at Newlands, Cape Town.
