The trouble for Indian pacer Mohammed Shami is increasing day-by-day. Following the allegations levelled by his wife Hasin Jahan regarding match-fixing, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked its Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) to “look into the Shami issue”.
As per a report in TOI, on 14th March, head of Committee of Administrators (CoA) appointed by Supreme Court, Vinod Rai, wrote an email to Neeraj Kumar, head of Anti-Corruption Unit of BCCI, asking him to look into the matter.
“This has reference to the various media reports pertaining to allegations against Shami. The CoA has listened to the audio recording of a telephonic conversation which it is claimed is between Shami and his wife. The said audio recording is available in public domain. The CoA is concerned only with such portion of the said audio recording in which the person who it is claimed is Shami is heard saying another person that someone by the name of ‘Mohammed Bhai’ had sent money to Shami through a Pakistani lady by the name of ‘Alishba,” writes Vinod Rai.
Earlier, Mohammed Shami’s wife Hasin Jahan had said in a statement that he could be involved in match-fixing. And later she had leaked a phone-recording in which Shami was quoted saying he went there (Dubai) to take money (from a Pakistani girl named Alisbah) send by Mohammed Bhai (An England-based businessman).
Vindo Rai in his mail said, “Please investigate the above assertions/ allegations under the BCCI Anti-Corruption Code and submit a report to the CoA with your findings as to whether there is any basis to proceed further in terms thereof.”
“The investigation should cover (i) the identity and antecedents of “Mohammad Bhai” and “Alishba”; (ii) whether any money was in fact sent by the said Mohammad Bhai through the said Alishba to Shami; and (iii) if yes, the purpose for which the said money was received by Shami.”
Earlier Indian cricket board had withheld Shami’s contract after Jahan’s allegations. Rai has given the deadline of seven days to ACU to submit their report on the issue.
“Since the CoA has decided to hold back Shami’s players’ contract pending submission of your report as aforesaid, you are requested to submit the said report at the earliest and preferably no later than seven days from today,” Rai further writes.
“The CoA wishes to emphasise that the investigation be limited to the above issues only and not deal with any of the other allegations against Shami unless you find that the same fall within the purview of the BCCI Anti-Corruption Code,” the CoA head says.
Earlier on Monday, Kolkata Police had written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) asking for details of the Indian cricket team’s itinerary, specifically of Shami, on their tour of South Africa.
The police want to know whether Shami was on the same flight after the Men-in-Blue left South Africa or not. The reason behind their demand is to know whether Shami went to Dubai officially with the entire Indian squad or had gone alone at his own expense.
The Kolkata Police’s line of questions also included how long and where did Shami stay in Dubai and whether the Indian cricketer was following the guidelines of the BCCI or not.
For further investigations of the case, Kolkata Police are waiting for the reply from Indian cricket board.
Meanwhile, an FIR was registered against the cricketer, on Friday, after his wife complained of domestic violence and adultery.
According to media reports, the FIR was registered under sections 498A, 323, 307, 376, 506, 328, 34 of the Indian Penal Code against Shami and 4 others, following Hasin Jahan’s complaint.

Later, Jahan also alleged that Shami was forcing her to have physical relations with his brother.
However, Indian pacer still believes that solving the issue by talking is the best possible option. Talking to media Shami said, “only patch up” will benefit them and their daughter.
“If this matter can be solved by talking, nothing can be better than that. Only patch up will do good for us and our daughter. If I have to go to Kolkata to solve the matter, I will. I am ready to talk, whenever she wants,” Shami said to the media on Sunday.
Talking to Aaj Tak on Sunday, Shami said, “I am trying to resolve the entire issue within the family. I am ready for all the legal proceedings and I will do whatever I can to save the future of my kid and family.”
“I am a law-abiding citizen and will answer all questions and hope everything is fine soon. I also want the proofs submitted are thoroughly probed. Everything was fine until a week ago and I don’t know what happened so suddenly,” Shami said.

Notably, Shami had also claimed that Hasin Jahan is being brainwashed by somebody to level allegations against him. However, Jahan had said Shami was about to run away and ditch her.
