Indian women’s cricket team’s One Day International (ODI) skipper Mithali Raj believes that global desi girl Priyanka Chopra will be a great choice to play her character in her biopic.
Speaking to The Times of India, Mithali Raj said, “I think Priyanka Chopra will be a great choice (to play me in the biopic). Our personalities match a lot. However, I am not a movie buff, so I would love the experts to do their job.”
Earlier, talking to IANS, Mithali Raj had said that Indian women’s cricket team is appreciated and respected like their male counterparts in today’s time. Mithali credited their newfound popularity to the team’s impressive stint at the World Cup in 2017.
“I think the perception of the people has changed. They can now see it is not just about men but women also play equally well,” Mithali told IANS adding, “There is lot of following after the world cup. With increasing number of followers, most of the matches are being televised. Also, with the BCCI (Board Of Control For Cricket In India) coming in, we are now centrally contracted players. The players can actually invest more time in improving their games rather than thinking about jobs.”
Priyanka Chopra had previously played the role of five-time world champion MC Mary Kom in latter’s biopic and the film received a thunderous response at the Box Office.
On the work-front, Priyanka Chopra will be next seen in Salman Khan’s Bharat, to be directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, which is expected to hit the screens on Eid next year.
