Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti has apologised to the club and their fans after his agent had likened the Italian’s situation to that of a prisoner in the wake of rumours that Barcelona wanted the midfielder but the French side were forcing him to stay put in Paris.

"We have had some difficult days. I also saw another statement from my agent this morning. I wanted to say to everyone that it's not my way of thinking, not my words. He works for me, and I want to apologise to the club, the fans, the people who work here,” Verrati apologised via the club’s Twitter account.

Verratti, who signed for PSG from Italian side Pescara in 2012, added, “We have started pre-season training, and I'm very happy to start another one and get back to the club, my team mates, my coach and everyone. I know the club has great faith in me. Once again, I would like to apologise”.

In his five seasons with Les Parisiens, Verratti has transformed from a talented prospect to a world-class star and Catalan giants have said to be circling for a while now, as they look to replace their ageing midfield with some fresh blood.

“If I have become a good player, it's thanks to Paris Saint-Germain, who believed in me at the start. That's why I'm apologising.

“He [his agent] was mistaken with his statement. As I said, it's not my way of thinking. I hope something like this won't happen again. We want everyone to be calm. Here, I have always been at 100 per cent. I will continue to give my best for the club,” Verratti stressed," Veratti said.
