Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is putting on a brave face despite knowing that he will miss the UEFA Champions League final and the 2018 FIFA World Cup, promising his fans on Instagram that he’s already looking forward to coming back.
Gomez underwent surgery on his ankle Tuesday, Liverpool confirmed as they added they expected the 20-year-old to return to first-team action by July, effectively ruling him out of this summer’s World Cup as well.

With regular right-back Nathaniel Clyne injured for a majority of the season, Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold had been rotated at the position by Jurgen Klopp.
And Gomez, who has made over 20 Premier League starts this season, was in contention to make Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup in Russia as well.

The 20-year-old last played for the Reds in a scoreless draw with Stoke City on April 28 and managed to complete the full 90 minutes against the Potters.
With him out of the reckoning, Klopp has to decide between the in-form Alexander-Anrnold and fit-again Clyne for the Champions League final with Real Madrid in Kiev on May 26.

The Reds have a final Premier League game of the season left, a home tie with Brighton & Hove Albion on May 13, before they turn their attentions towards continental domination.
