Lionel Messi ruled out of US tour due to calf injury

Argentina football veteran Lionel Messi will not travel to the United States with his club Barcelona FC as he has sustained a calf injury. The recent reports also state that the Argentina footballer had suffered a grade one strain when he was training on Monday.

The strain has now ruled him out of Barcelona’s US tour and he will stay in Spain to recover from his injury. Notably, the training session in which he sustained this injury was the star player’s first after he had returned from a holiday. His earlier assignment was with the Argentina national squad during the Copa America 2019.

Earlier, a statement released by Barcelona read, “Messi withdrew from the session due to discomfort in his right leg. Tests carried out have diagnosed a Grade 1 calf strain for the Argentine.”

Although it is still not known how long will he take to recover or how serious is the injury, but perhaps he may well be ruled out of Barcelona’a La liga opening match against Athletic Bilbao on 16 August.

Blaugrana, who went on to defeat Arsenal in the Joan Gamper Trophy match on Sunday, will play a couple of matches against Napoli in the USA. While the first game will be played in Miami on Wednesday, the second one is in Michigan on Saturday.
