Karnataka defeated Tamil Nadu by 60 runs (VJD method) in the final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday.

This is the fourth time Karnataka have won the tournament. They bagged the trophy in 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2017-18.

After winning the toss, Karnataka skipper Manish Pandey decided to bowl.

The day belonged to Karnataka pacer Abhimanyu Mithun, who became the first-ever Karnataka cricketer to take a hat-trick in the Vijay Hazare trophy after he dismissed three Tamil Nadu batsmen off consecutive deliveries in the final. What made it more special is that it is Mithun’s birthday on Friday and he returned with a fifer.

Accompanied by the attack from Mithun, who returned figures of 5 for 34, Karnataka bundled out Tamil Nadu for 252 runs.

Abhinav Mukund and Baba Aparajith were the highest scorers for Tamil Nadu with the scores of 85 and 66, respectively.

During Karnataka’s chase, rain halted the play at 23 overs, but by then they had cruised to 146 for 1, well ahead of the VJD par score of 86, with Mayank Agarwal batting on 69 off 55 balls. KL Rahul was in the middle with Agarwal, with an unbeaten 52 off 72 balls, as Tamil Nadu’s bowlers were sent on a leather hunt.

However, rains marred the further play and Karnataka were declared champions based on the VJD method.

The only wicket that Karnataka lost was of Devdutt Padikkal, who fell to Washington Sundar on 11.
