La Liga giants Real Madrid’s star player Karim Benzema continued his goal-scoring spree on Sunday. His 64th strike against Sevilla helped Real Madrid register an important win. His goal has helped him equal a Lionel Messi record.
Meanwhile, a win has ensured Real Madrid reach second place at the points tally. They are also now four points ahead of their arch-rivals Barcelona. Barca have already managed to win two of the five matches so far and are currently at the eight place in the points tally.
The Karim Benzema goal which helped Madrid clinch crucial three points on the points tally has also helped him equalise Lionel Messi’s record for most goals in 2019 calendar year. Benzema’s goal was his 20th in 2019. Only four other strikers have achieved this feat across Europe’s top five major leagues: Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandowski, Kylian Mbappe and Sergio Aguero.
Post the match, Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane appeared to be a relieved man as the pressure was immense on him.
“This is the first game that leaves me the most satisfied since I came back as manager this March,” Zidane told reporters during the post-match press conference.
“We had difficult moments, but the players’ solidarity was obvious,” he added.
