Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof said that Jose Mourinho, who was fired from his post of Red Devils manager last year, is a great coach and the 25-year-old Swedish player misses the Portuguese guide.

Mourinho, who currently works at Sky Sports as a pundit, was sacked by United at the end of last year, despite being linked with multiple high-profile jobs.

“He’s a great coach and a great person, whom I owe a great deal. It was he who gave me the chance here, who brought me into everything,” Lindelof told Aftonbladet as quoted by Goal.

Notably, the Portuguese manager had to leave Old Trafford after a tumultuous two-and-a-half-year spell during which he bagged three trophies and led Manchester to a second-place finish in the 2017-18 Premier League.

Lindelof believes his old mentor Mourinho is still “one of the world’s best coaches”.

“He is, after all, one of the world’s best coaches and he is supposed to have a job at one of the biggest clubs. I miss him in football,” Lindelof said.

“I have all the respect in the world for him and appreciate everything he has said and done for me, from scolding to a hug.

“Even if I did not agree, at the time…he has very great charisma, you had great respect for him. He’s won everything. When he says something, you listen,” he added.

Manchester United, the most successful team in the Premier League history, have had their worst start this season in 33 years, and currently lie at 7th spot in the points table with 16 points from 12 games.
