The Gujarat Giants suffered a big blow as Mohammed Shami was ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 due to an ankle injury on Thursday.

The speedstar is said to go for surgery on the left ankle in order to return to action.

Shami played an important role in sending India to the finals of the ICC World Cup 2023 against Australia. The 33-year-old fast bowler was the highest wicket taker of the tournament with 24 wickets from seven games.

Shami’s absence will be a massive setback for his IPL team, the Gujarat Titans, as the Amroha-born cricketer has been an important player for the Titans, scrapping 48 wickets at an average of 21.04 and a strike rate of 15.75.
