IPL 2018: R Ashwin set to lead Preity Zinta’s Kings XI Punjab

Preity Zinta co-owned franchise Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), on Monday, announced that spin wizard Ravichandran Ashwin would lead the team in the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League.

On the official Facebook page of the Punjab-based team, team’s mentor Virender Sehwag revealed in a video that R Ashwin has been appointed as the skipper of the team.

In the much-talked about IPL players’ mega-auction in Bangalore on 27th and 28th January, KXIP had bought R Ashwin for Rs 7.6 crore.

Ashwin had now become the 10th skipper of KXIP. Other than Ashwin, players like Glenn Maxwell (Australia, 2017), Murali Vijay (India, 2016), David Miller (South Africa, 2016), George Bailey (Australia, 2014 and 2015), David Hussey (Australia, 2012 and 2013), Adam Gilchrist (Australia, 2011 and 2012), Mahela Jayawardene ((Sri Lanka, 2010), Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka, 2009) and Yuvraj Singh (India, 2008) have led the team in the past.

In the players’ retention event, KXIP had retained only one player, Axar Patel, for Rs 12.5 crore.
