In the 16th match of the 11th season of Indian Premier League (IPL), R Ashwin-led Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) thrashed Kane Williamson’s SunRisers Hyderabad by 15 runs at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Thursday (19 April).
Here is the stats review of the Thursday’s match:
1. Explosive Kings XI Punjab batsman Chris Gayle scored unbeaten 104 runs against the SunRisers Hyderabad and this is the highest individual score by any player against SRH.
2.The previous record was held by Brendon McCullum. He had made an unbeaten 100 runs against SRH in 2015 while playing for Chennai Super Kings.
3. Chris Gayle’s sensational knock knocked out SRH bowlers but it was his slowest century in IPL. Gayle has scored six centuries in IPL and total 21 centuries in the shortest format of the game.
4- Gayle’s sixth IPL century was also his second slowest ton in the T20.
5- On Thursday, Gayle hammered SRH bowling line-ups and for the first time in the history of IPL, viewers witness Rashid Khan conceding more than 50 runs in four overs.
6- Rashid Khan’s 55 runs against KXIP is also his worst bowling figure.
7- Rashid’s previous worst in T20 match was against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo in 2015, where he had conceded 52 runs in four overs for Afghanistan.
8- Chris Gayle hit his maximum 11 sixes on Thursday, and this is the 16th time when he has hit 10 or more sixes in a T20 match.
9- Other Chris Gayle no other batter has achieved this feat. In fact, no other batsman had done this on more than two occasions.
10- Gayle hit six sixes to teenaged Afganistan bowling sensation Rashid Khan and this is the joint-most by any batsman against a bowler in a T20 match.
11- RCB skipper Virat Kohli and Andre Russell (twice) are the other batsmen to do so.
12- In the history of T20, it has happened only 6th time when a batsman has hit four consecutive sixes. Chris Gayle alone has done this thrice!
13- On 19 April, SRH suffered their first defeat at Mohali.
