The talented trio of Vidhatri Urs, Zara Anand and Heena Kang, will represent India in the Queen Sirikit Cup to be played at Clearwater Golf Club in Christchurch from Wednesday.
The three amateurs have been sent by the Indian Golf Union (IGU) as part of their Annual Calendar for Training & Competition (ACTC), which is funded by the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
IGU has appointed Sunita Katarya as the team manager for the event.
Interestingly, Avani Prashanth, Vidhatri and Nishna Patel had finished runner-up behind formidable South Korea in Manila last year. Further, Avani had ended a 43-year wait by claiming the individual title.
Zara, who was part of Uttar Pradesh’s silver medal-winning team in the National Games at Delhi Golf Club last year, is excited to be making her maiden appearance in the 44th edition of the event in New Zealand.
“I am super excited to be representing the country in the Queen Sirikit Cup for the first time. The Indian team had a runner-up finish last year that gives me a lot of confidence. I firmly believe that our team will post a memorable performance in New Zealand,” Zara said from Christchurch.
Zara finished sole sixth in the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour’s sixth leg at the toughest course in India – the DLF Golf & Country Club in Gurugram last week with Vidhatri scripting a top-5 result, which will keep the duo in good stead going into the tournament.
