India vs New Zealand: Shikhar Dhawan overtakes Sourav Ganguly on this elite list

Senior Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan on Wednesday became the third fastest batsman to score 5000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODI). He shares the position with West Indies great Brian Lara.

South Africa’s Hashim Amla, who took just 101 ODI innings to score 5000 runs, is placed on the top of the table. Indian skipper Virat Kohli and West Indies great Viv Richards occupy the second spot. Both Kohli and Richards had taken 114 innings to score 5000.

At the third spot are now Shikhar Dhawan and Brian Lara, with both having taken 118 innings to score 5000 runs. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson is on the fourth spot on the list. Williamson had taken 119 innings to touch the milestone of 5000 runs.

Dhawan, who has been of late struggling with his form, also beat Sourav Ganguly to become the second quickest Indian to 5000 runs. The first spot is reserved by Virat Kohli. Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly is now the third fastest Indian to 5000 runs. Dada had reached the milestone in 126 innings.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, Indian bowlers made a mockery of McLean Park’s billing as a batting paradise as they bundled up New Zealand for 157 runs in Napier. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson scored a hard-fought 64.

 

From Team India, Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets and Mohammed Shami bagged three wickets. Kedar Jadhav took one wicket and Yuzi Chahal finished with two wickets.
