Former Australian great Adam Gilchrist was all praises for Aussie speedster Pat Cummins for his splendid fielding efforts to run out Test specialist Cheteshwar Puajra on the opening day of the first Test match of the series in Adelaide.

On Thursday, Pat Cummins ended Pujara’s innings by a direct hit when the Indian was trying to steal a single after flicking the ball to mid-wicket. The incident took place just before the stumps and Pujara was the last India batsman to be dismissed on the day. Speaking about Cummins’s brilliant efforts, Gilchrist, who was commentating for Fox Cricket, said, “That should not be allowed!”

Gilchrist added: “A fast bowler who has bowled 20 overs, (does this) in the last two minutes of the day. What an athlete!”

“What a way to finish for the Australians. That’ll have their tails up. What an inspirational run-out by Pat Cummins. That’s the best run-out ever! I’m calling it, I’m calling it early!” he added.

So far, Chetesthwar Pujara has been four times dismissed for a run-out in 2018 in the longest format of the game.

“I was a bit disappointed but I had to take that single because only the last two balls were left and I thought I should be on strike, so I took the chance but he (Cummins) fielded brilliantly,” Pujara said after the match.
