Virat Kohli went on to add an ‘unwanted’ record in his already stellar career after India was bundled-out for 209 in their first inning of the opening Test match against South Africa at Newlands Cape Town on Saturday.

Indian batters failed to capitalise after Proteas were bowled out at 286 runs. Visitors lost their top order within 28 runs including Indian skipper Virat Kohli (5).

Interestingly, this is first time in four year that he failed to make an impression in his first innings of the calendar year (2018).

From the year 2014 to 2017, in every first inning of the year, Kohli’s batting performance has been exceptional. In the first inning of 2014, Kohli scored 123 runs, in 2015 he scored 147 runs, in 2016 he scored 91 runs and in 2017 Virat scored 122 runs in his first inning.

The viewers were expecting something magical from the skipper after Indian openers had failed to take the visitors inning forward. Now it would be interesting to see how Kohli will lead India in the match
