The first edition of the ICC World Test championship finally commenced with the first Ashes Test which started on 1 August. The Championship has been introduced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in an attempt to revive the Test match format and give a lot more context to bilateral Test series and each Test match being played.

Notably, as part of this championship, the top 9 teams according to the ICC Test Rankings will play three home series and three away series from August 2019 to June 2021. While England, Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, India and West Indies have all begun their campaign, the other teams, namely South Africa, Pakistan and Bangladesh are all set to begin their Championship campaign soon.

Now, as per the rules, there will be as many as 120 points at stake in one Test series and depending upon the number of matches in the test series, points for winning and losing the Test match will be awarded proportionately.

With India beating West Indies, England levelling the Ashes Series 1-1 and Sri Lanka registering a win over New Zealand in the first Test, there has already been a lot of activity on the points table of the ICC World Test Championship.
