Not many players can claim Manchester United and Liverpool both were interested in signing them but that’s exactly what happened with former AS Monaco man Fabinho and the Brazilian has revealed he chose the Reds over the Red Devils primarily because they showed more desire to land him.

“There are many things (that made me sign for the club). The infrastructure at the club is very good. This was one of the reasons why I chose Liverpool,” Fabinho was quoted as saying by the club website.

United had been long-term admirers of the Brazilian midfielder, but recent reports had seen them linked more with his compatriot Fred, who plays for Ukranian side Shaktar Donetsk.

“Also, Liverpool showed a lot of interest in me quite early. That was also very important because I felt the club wanted me to come. Then, I was able to know a bit more about the city of Liverpool,” the 24-year-old midfielder added.

As United’s interest reportedly cooled, Liverpool swooped in and got their man on a long-term deal.

“Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to meet Liverpool supporters – I have only seen on video or television the way they are. From what I have seen so far, they are fantastic.”

It’s not been a good week for the Merseysiders as they were thumped 3-1 by Real Madrid in the 2018 UEFA Champions League final but the fact that they mean business in the transfer market will give their fans something to cheer for.

Their latest acquisition, who’s 6’2, is a powerful presence in midfield but can deputise at right-back as well. He played a crucial role in Monaco’s Ligue 1 triumph and their UEFA Champions League run in the 2016-17 season.

“Also, other players that played here – they only say good things about Liverpool. What they said to me about when they played at Anfield, it makes me more willing to start playing for this football club. This was a very positive point for me to make my decision.”

While Fabinho is the sole addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad so far, he will have Naby Keita for company as well.

The Guinenan midfielder was signed by Liverpool last summer, but as a part of the deal agreed with Red Bull Leipzig, remained in the Bundesliga for one season.

“Liverpool are in a league that is probably the best in the world, so there were many positive points for me to choose to come and I am very, very happy to be here,” Fabinho gushed.
