David Warner is the toast of the day after he scored a record-breaking 335 not-out against Pakistan on the second day of the ongoing Day-Night Test at the Adelaide Oval.
After completing his triple-hundred many wondered if the Australian opener might have a go at Brian Lara’s record of 400 runs, highest-ever individual score in Test cricket.
While he looked well and truly capable of reaching the milestone, his journey was cut short when Australian skipper Tim Paine decided to declare the innings with over a session left to play on just the second day of the match.
On one hand, when the social media has gone ga-ga over Warner’s humongous effort, one section of fans called Paine harshly for his surprising decision to declare the innings. The declaration denied Warner the chance to achieve the greatest personal glory for a Test batsman.
Here’s how fans are reacting on Twitter:
Tim paine @tdpaine36 were you jealous of #DavidWarner breaking Brian Lara’s record and enlisting his name in world cricket? What was the urgency to declare it on day 2 . You are a jealous bum. #AUSvPAK #Cricket #Australia #PAKvAUS

Tim Paine should have let David Warner cross 400. There were still more 3 days left in the match. Just one day was enough to all out Pakistan twice. 😂

Hey Babysitter👶 Australian temporary captain @tdpaine36 (Tim Paine) we were waiting for our champion Mr.David Warner’s 4th century (400) but you did poor captaincy and declared 1st inning on 589/3. He was on 335* & still 42 overs were left to stump day 2.#AUSvsPAK pic.twitter.com/ILcezy8eAs

Warner’s unbeaten innings of 335 has now become the highest individual score in pink-ball Test.
With this innings, the 33-year-old also became the seventh cricketer from his country to reach the triple-figure mark in red-ball cricket. He has also become the only Australian cricketer to join the elite list of openers who have two or more than two 250-above scores in Test cricket.
