On Saturday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced publicly that new applications were now being accepted for the position of national selectors for the men’s team, after a series of poor performances in  major ICC tournaments by Men in Blue. The applications must be received by November 28, 2022, at 1800 IST.

Earlier this week, BCCI sacked the entire national selectors committee because of Team India’s semi-final exit from the recently concluded T20 World Cup in Australia.

Chetan Sharma, who served as the selection panel’s chairman, was joined by Debasis Mohanty, Sunil Joshi, Harvinder Singh, and Sunita Singh in choosing the team for the T20 World Cup in Australia. The selector, Abey Kuruvilla, resigned in February of this year. His post hasn’t been filled yet. While Mohanty is about to finish his four-year term, the other three selectors—Harvinder, Joshi, and Chetan—have each held their seats for two years.

BCCI on its official website released the selection criteria for 5 vacant positions.

Should have played a minimum of

a) 7 Test matches; OR

b) 30 First Class matches; OR

c) 10 ODI and 20 First Class matches.

Should have retired from the game at least 5 years ago.

No person who has been a member of any Cricket Committee (as defined in the rules and regulations of BCCI) for a total of 5 years shall be eligible to be a member of Men’s Selection Committee.

Applications should be submitted by 1800 hrs IST on November 28, 2022.
