Former South Africa opener Herschelle Gibbs has been named as the head coach of Euro T20 Slam franchise Rotterdam Rhinos.
The news was announced on the Euro T20 Slam’s official website on Tuesday, reports Sport24.
The tournament, hosted by Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands, will start on 30 August with six teams contesting 33 matches and will culminate on September 22. The matches will be played in Dublin, Edinburgh and Amsterdam.
The players’ draft for the inaugural Euro T20 Slam will take place in London on July 19.
As per the league guidelines, each team will have to play at least six local players and a maximum of five overseas players in the playing XI.
All the six franchises — Amsterdam Knights, Rotterdam Rhinos, Edinburgh Rocks, Glasgow Giants, Dublin Chiefs and Belfast Titans — will be given an opportunity to decide their icon and marquee players beforehand.
The icon players are Martin Guptill, Brendon McCullum, Eoin Morgan, Shahid Afridi, Shane Watson and Rashid Khan while the marquee players are Dale Steyn, JP Duminy, Imran Tahir, Chris Lynn, Babar Azam and Luke Ronchi.
45-year-old Gibbs played 90 Tests, 248 ODIs and 23 T20Is between 1996 and 2010 for South Africa.
The right-handed batsman became the first player to hit six consecutive sixes in one over in One Day International cricket, doing so against the Netherlands in the 2007 Cricket World Cup.
