It’s widely accepted that Germany and Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels is a world-class defender, but not many know that the 29-year-old can hold his own on Twitter and his latest tweets have tickled the funny bone of many.

Die Mannschaft, the defending champions, are the favourites to lift the quadrennial tournament that kicks off in a few days time in Russia.

Joachim Loew’s men were terrific in qualifying, but their form since the turn of the year has been a bit wobbly, even though they did win their final warm-up tie, a June 8clash with Saudi Arabia, 2-1.

Twitter user Alba then took the opportunity to apply some ‘pressure’ on the centre-back:

It looked like everyone wanted the  strapping defender to change his position and give the likes of Thomas Muller and Timo Werner a run for their money:

Before Joachim Loew got wind of his player’s somewhat mutinous ambitions, Hummels admitted he was playing in his best position at the moment:

The drama wasn’t done, however, for another Twitter user used an interesting choice of words to insinuate something was cooking between Hummels and English crooner Dua Lipa but the German defender’s riposte was pure gold:

The entire German nation will be hoping that Hummels and Co. can bring their A Game to Russia for the defending champions will definitely be marked men from the off.
