Siliguri mayor initiates developmental projects

The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) has been inaugurating a series of its own projects under the leadership of mayor Goutam Deb.

Mayor Deb today inaugurated its three projects today. Keeping an eye on the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls Mr Deb has been inaugurating several projects since the beginning of 2024.

One of the projects was installation of an iron remover plant to supply iron-free safe drinking water from deep tube wells. The project cost was Rs 26.71 lakh.

Mr Deb today inaugurated three public toilets in Ward 1. The project cost was Rs 11.11 lakh. In Ward 33, two more public toilets were inaugurated today. The cost of two projects was Rs 4.96 lakh.

Mayor Deb yesterday tabled SMC budget. The estimated budget for the year 2024-25 is Rs 618 crore. The estimated budget for the year 2023-24 was Rs 591 crore.

In the present budget the SMC has given special emphasis on surface water safe drinking water projects for the SMC area.

A few days ago, following instructions of chief minister Mamata Banerjee, the SMC under the leadership of Goutam Deb, has begun Maa Canteen at North Bengal Medical College & Hospital. The SMC has granted Rs 4.58 lakh for Maa-Canteen. In this canteen, egg, dal and vegetable rice will be provided for only Rs 5 every two hours, Mr Deb said.

Notably, minister of state for agriculture marketing and panchayat and rural development Becharam Manna attended a high-level meeting at Siliguri State Guest House on Wednesday. After the meeting Mr Manna accompanied by other officials including the mayor visited Siliguri Regulated Market for its development.
