The festival of Karwa Chauth is celebrated in the country with great zeal. It holds major significance in the lives of married women in India. As a symbol of love, women observe an all-day fast without even having a sip of water and pray for the long life of their partners.
Traditionally, fasting women get ready at the time of the evening Puja. In the evening Puja, women are told a story about a queen named Veervati by the pujari at the temple after which women wait for the moon to arise in the sky to break their fast.
As the rituals are followed, the women offer prayer to the moon at the end and the husbands are supposed to help their wives in taking the first sip of water to complete the fast.
As per the Hindu lunar calendar, the festival of Karwa Chauth, also spelt Karva Chauth, is observed on the fourth day after the Purnima (the full moon night), which is Krishna Paksha Chaturthi in the month of Kartik.
Karwa Chauth will be celebrated on October 17, this year.
According to astrologers, due to the addition of Rohini in Rohini Nakshatra and Moon, Markandeya and Satyabhama Yoga is being made on this Karva Chauth. This fast is very good for women who will be fasting for the first time.
The day will observe the Puja Muhurat from 5:46 pm till 7:02 pm, which means the puja muhurat is of 1 hour and 16 minutes.
Also, Karwa Chauth fasting time starts with the sunrise at 6:27 am till 8:16 pm, which means this year the fasting time will be of 13 hours and 50 minutes.
